Engineering

Automation is changing rapidly due to the continual demand for increased sophistication and simplification placed on its various components. Thus, the Research and Development groups at SMC are directed towards keeping up with this trend. Smaller, faster, multi-functional components are a high priority as are the application of electronics and sensing to pneumatics and other devices.

The Research and Development groups are geared towards satisfying both individual customers and general markets. SMC's policy of tandem product development on a customer and industry basis allows rapid tracking of the winding path of automation development.

Finally, as we look toward the future, environmental consumption is at the forefront of all research and development efforts. Our development initiatives strive for excellence in design with an environmentally conscious focus.

Tsukuba (Japan) Technical Center

The Tsukuba Technical Center was opened in 1991 in Yawara, Ibaragi Prefecture, Japan. This center, located on an immense site of 25,000 square meters, is where the majority of research and development is concentrated.

In September 2000, a second complex was built to serve as the mainstay of research and development for the next generation.

U.S. Technical Center

With SMC, you get the innovation of over 130 engineers driving performance up and cost-of-ownership down.

SMC has a proven design philosophy founded on innovative engineering, quality, manufacturing, and customer support. This philosophy has positioned us as the world leader in the design and manufacturing of pneumatic automation products.

This leadership was not gained by typical inside the box engineering and product development. By stepping outside the box, expanding engineering boundaries and leveraging the latest design technologies we have been able to redefine industry standards.

ETech

SMC is rapidly expanding engineering resources and continually challenging our own innovations. Our driving force is to make it easier for customers to do business with us. Our dedication to providing our customers with innovative design solutions and support is the foundation for the development and release of ETech.

ETech features several easy-to-use product selection methods, such as parametric selection, solution-based selection and a hierarchical product catalog. Once a product is configured, 2D and 3D CAD models can be downloaded and inserted into final assembly drawings. In addition, online sizing is available to ensure the right product has been selected for your application. Because ETech is internet-based, you can view and download SMC product information at anytime from anywhere.
