Information Collection and Use

Information collected by SMC originates from SMC website user forms, SMC trade shows or marketing events, and SMC commercial sales. SMC US does not purchase bulk mailing lists or information generated outside of the organization.

We use this information to:

  • Send requested product or service information
  • Respond to customer service requests
  • Administer user account
  • Send you marketing communications
  • Administer surveys entered through emails
  • Enable upload of resume and to be contacted about job postings
  • Download CAD files for SMC products
  • To view images and catalogs related to SMC products
  • When we believe in good faith that is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others or to investigate fraud.

We collect the following personal information from you:

  • Contact Information such as name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and country location
  • Unique Identifiers such as password
  • Information about business such as company name

Some services provided by SMC require minimal information to complete transactions such as emailing a parts list from a drawing created in the complimentary CAD design center. Though the information is not required to use the service, the additional enhancements may not be available without the information.

We may send you marketing emails from time to time. Out of respect for your privacy, you may choose to stop receiving these marketing emails by following the unsubscribe/ opt-out instructions included in these emails, utilize the Consumer Privacy request tool, or you can contact us at privacyrequests@smcusa.com. 

We may provide you the opportunity to participate in contests or surveys on our site. If you participate, we will request certain personal information from you. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and you, therefore have a choice whether to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code). We use this information to evaluate our customer service levels and satisfaction with various aspects of our business, to monitor site traffic, and to personalize our web site. We send participants an email newsletter on a periodic basis.

Information Sharing

SMC may share your personal information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy policy. Third-party service providers could be used to send email or provide customer support and are strictly prohibited from using our users’ personal information for any purpose other than stated in the contracted service.

SMC US does not sell your personal information to third parties.

We may provide your personal information to companies that provide services to help us with our business activities such as shipping your order or offering customer service. In some cases, SMC may provide your information to our authorized distributors or other SMC entities. These companies are authorized to use your personal information only as necessary to provide these services to us.

SMC USA CRM and Email system providers maintain data privacy standards. Data from these systems are used to send emails to interested parties, to provide account information, track sales opportunities, and identify project data for our sales personnel and distribution partners.

We may also disclose your personal information:

  • as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process
  • when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request,
  • if SMC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information,

International Transfers


To facilitate our operations, we may transfer, store and process your personal information in jurisdictions other than where you live, including in the United States. Laws in these countries may differ from the laws applicable to your country of residence. For instance, if you are a European Economic Area (EEA) data subject and your personal information is shared with our affiliates, partners, or third-party service providers acting on our behalf outside of the EEA, then it is done so pursuant to necessary means to ensure an adequate level of protection.

SMC makes every reasonable effort to ensure that adequate levels of protection are provided for the information by employing technical controls, and/or direct SMC affiliate Data Processing Agreements.

User Access and Choice

Upon request, SMC will provide you with information about whether we hold any of your personal information. If your personal information changes, or if you no longer desire our service, you may correct, update, amend, delete/remove or deactivate it by making the change on your member account information page by logging in to your account, by emailing our SMC North America Privacy Dept (privacyrequests@smcusa.com), by using the Consumer Privacy request link, or by calling the SMC Privacy line at 1-877-214-7768. Advertising

We partner with a third party to either display advertising on our Web site or to manage our advertising on other sites, for example, we use Attribution / Analytics (Google Analytics). SMC and our business partners, distributors, or analytics or service providers such as Google, SalesForce.com, SOLIDWORKS, Wistia, etc. uses cookies and similar technologies are used in analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base. We may receive reports based on the use of these technologies by these companies on an individual as well as aggregated basis.

We use cookies to remember users’ settings (e.g. language preference) and for authentication.

Our website includes Social Media Features, such as the Facebook Like button, and Widgets, such as the Share This button or interactive mini-programs that run on our website. These Features may collect your Internet protocol address, which page you are visiting on our website, and may set a cookie to enable the Feature to function properly. Social Media Features and Widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our website. Your interactions with these Features are governed by the privacy statement of the company providing it.
